Start: Wednesday, March 30, 2011 from 10:00AM until 2:00PM
End: Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 2:00PM
This our signature annual event--now celebrating our 18th year! The 2011 Leonard Shearer March Madness Youth Basketball Tournament talented Hillsborough County youth competing to be the best! Be prepared to see some serious skills and be amazed by the athletic talents of the great kids in our community!
The March Madness event has blossomed into a major tournament for behaviorally-challenged students from various local schools with the help of local businesses such as Caspers Company/ McDonald's Restaurants. In order to qualify for enrollment in the event, each student must have at least one year without problems or incidents at their schools. They also participate in an art and essay contest to be accepted to the tournament.
The day after the tournament there is an awards presentation banquet held at the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City, where the kids receive lunch, hear motivational speeches and be recognized for their accomplishments. This year, we're delighted and honored to have Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor offering the keynote address at the awards banquet!
"This is the first time many of these kids have ever been to a ‘sit-down restaurant'- let alone a fine dining establishment like the Columbia-you can't help being touched by the experience" says Clara Reynolds, CEO and director of Success 4 Kids and Families, Inc. "We are very thankful to all the organizations that have made this possible."
We hope that you will come and support our youth and the community by attending this FREE fun-filled family event!
